Last week I had the pleasure of visiting the lovely people of Carcanet Press in Manchester for an insight into all the 'going ons' in the small, but very cosy office that makes Carcanet Press.
The trip was for the School Magazine Committee to learn more about the printing and publishing process so we could gain a greater understanding of the kind of work that's done after we've put it all together on a computer screen. Although this was really insightful, what I found most useful was hearing what the Sales and Marketing Officers had to say; I don't think this side of the job, in any industry is given enough credit. The amount of work that you have to put into promoting a book or piece of writing, and trying to get the authors name out there, alongside organising events and talks, really needs more praise than it gets!
Hearing about the different aspects that ensue within sales and marketing gave me a real inspiration to be involved in something similar in my future.
All the staff are so friendly and chatty! So you should almost definitely follow Carcanet Press on Twitter.
